My Mum and Dad were in radio and TV in the 50’s, and they forbade me from following in their footsteps.
I didn’t listen to them.
After opening my first microphone in 1979, I was launched into an often hysterical and occasionally rewarding career in radio.
I left that behind in the early 90’s and tried my hand as a freelance voiceover. I learned pretty quickly that “Freelance” is a euphemism for “Starving.”
I decided to do a B.Biotech (Hons), and I’ve been a biochemist, microbiologist and protein chemist.
All the time though, I’ve kept flapping my gums for pleasure and profit for clients all over the world!
Show me a script that I've never seen before.
I dare you.
I can be your audiences' best friend or their darkest nemesis.
I can sell, amuse, stir, enrage and delight.
I can inform, educate, elucidate and confound.
I know what you want.
My presentation style has variously been described as dry, strong, credible, cheeky, warm, trustworthy, dark and friendly.
However, I’ve found that the most pleasant word to describe my voice is “Hired.”
